First a brief pause to say WOOHOO HELLO FEBRUARY!!! I don’t know about you but January always feels like its about 528 days long! But we made it!!!
As we look towards a new month I always love February from a boutique owner point of view! Finally, pretty prints and bright colors start making their way back into the boutique and everything just starts to feel lighter and more cheerful!
Transitioning into Spring can bring with it many if it’s own styling challenges. Yes we’re ready for warmer temps, dresses, a cute new blouse...But just when we’re ready to start wearing all those cute Spring pieces Mother Nature seems to always come roaring back to say “Not so fast” here’s another batch of cold weather for ya!!! Ugh...the torture 😂
So here is one solution that can work for everyone, at any age and style: the trusty and classic, DENIM JACKET. If you do not have one I strongly encourage you to add one to your closet! It is something that can take you from dinner, to play dates, girls nights, concerts, banquets and literally everywhere in between. And while we’re on the subject, get one that offers stretch! Styling with a denim jacket is EASY! I suggest sticking with a medium shade denim that will pair well with light and dark colors. You’ll want to make sure the arms and shoulders have ample room to layer. And you’ll also want to watch where the jacket hits you. If you’re petite a bit more cropped length may work well. Otherwise, look for a jacket that hits at least at your waist/high hip. For a trendier look, go with something in a boxier, boyfriend or oversized fit.
One fit tip that I love to use a denim jacket for is to create a more tailored fit to whatever you have on underneath. For example a loose, swing dress. If you aren’t feeling the flowiness of the dress; add your denim jacket and a long necklace! Instantly you are going to define your waistline and the long necklace will naturally draw the eye down to your waist, elongating your shape and enhancing and narrowing the waist!
Once you find the perfect fit/style then you’re ready to layer your denim jacket with just about everything! Try it with dresses, blouses, and t-shirts to extend your wardrobe options! Happy styling!
